Mission Statement

The mission of the College of Diplomates of the ABPD is to encourage and promote the pursuit of excellence in pediatric dentistry.

The objectives of the association shall be the advancement and the science and practice of Pediatric Dentistry through mutual cooperation and study, support of the objectives of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the encouragement of candidates for the Board Examination.

Course Objectives

Following completion of this course, the candidate will have:

  1. Increased knowledge and comfort regarding the OCE format
  2. Participated in or observed a simulated examination
  3. Discussed/Observed several case scenarios similar to the OCE
  4. Increased knowledge of the AAPD treatment guidelines and policy statements
  5. Reviewed the principles of differential diagnosis
  6. Had dialogue with former OCE examiners

The Oral Clinical Examination (OCE) of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry is designed to evaluate the candidate's knowledge and ability to solve clinical cases in pediatric dentistry. Skill sets evaluated for the OCE include:

  1. Data gathering/ diagnosis
  2. Management/ treatment plans
  3. Treatment Variations/ complications
